Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station

Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station (FMARS) on Devon Island, Canada - 75 degrees north.
Fundraising - Items Needed Now for FMARS:
If you are considering donating a specific item, please first contact Joe to assure that the purchase will meet the necessary specifications, that we aren't duplicating purchases, and to discuss logistics (some items can be purchased in Yellowknife, which reduces shipping costs. Items needed for FMARS 2010:
- A new kitchen stove - propane, 21"x20"x21"
- New dehumidifier - industrial-sized unit, for second floor of hab
- Large plastic water tank - for use in Hab main water supply in attic
- Data storage unit - dual redundant hard drives attached to network
- USB floppy disc drive
- HD Video Camera (hardened for outdoor shooting), storage media & batteries
- Tripod, high-end, for use with HD Camera
- Digital still cameras (six) - high-end, with geotagging capability (built-in GPS)
- Two-way radios & throat mics (six) - military grade, for use in space suits
- Satellite dish & internet service (2nd dish for backup & increased bandwidth)
- Satellite phones (two) & minutes card
- Fine-tune elevation adjustment knob for satellite dish
- Digital satellite finder - Acutrac 22 MKII Pro from Perfect 10 Satellite Distibuting
- GPS units - high-end Garmin units (four)
- Forerunner 310XT with premium heartrate monitor (2-5)
- ATVs (need up to 6 new vehicles, plus transportation to get them to Devon Island).
- Wind turbine with battery energy storage system
- Solar / wind powered weather station (with satellite link for remote data retrieval)
- Wind sock
- Seismic station with remote data link
- Backpack battery chargers (for space suit backpacks)
- ELT (Emergency Locater Transmitter)
- Toilet (technology TBD)
- Oxygen & other medical supplies
- Air sensors (several) - temp, humidity, CO2 levels, with internet connectivity
- Heads-up displays & wearable computers for us in space suits
- Logistical support in Resolute Bay (food, supplies, lodging - $15,000 per season)
- Bear bangers (24)

- Skillets (teflon), baking pans, cooking utensils, glass mixing bowls

- Sponsorship of twin-otter flights (~$5k each flight round trip between Resolute and Devon Island, approx 5-6 flights total per season)
- Dedicated UAV (~$30k) for use by all future expeditions (Prioria, Maveric UAV)
- Agricultural test pod building
- Generator shed building
- Rover garage building

OTHER MARS SOCIETY SPECIAL PROJECTS:
Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS), Utah
The schedule for the Mars Desert Research Station 2011 field season has now been finalized. There will be 8 mission simulation crews, commencing January 1 and ending May 7. Seven of the crews will be of two weeks duration while one will be of 4 weeks duration. There will also be an engineering team crew to prepare the hab for operation December 28-January 1. Beginning with the engineering team at the end of December, daily crew reports will be posted at the MDRS website, which will link from www.marssociety.org. for more information -click here-.
